Comments:

I got a BA in Sociology from Duke University and a Master's of Public Health from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. After college, I spent 2 years in the Peace Corps in Togo, West Africa as a Community Health Educator. I met my husband through the Sierra Club in Chapel Hill and have been married 30 years. We have enjoyed many backpacking and camping trips in NC and since retirement in Greece and Spain. After college, I worked in health education and health administration, including 10 years part-time while raising the girls. In my last job as a clinical data manager, I worked in Indonesia, Viet Nam, and Thailand. I retired in 2012 and we are now foster parents.

Favorite Glenbrook South Teacher and Why:

Mr Lund really made US History come alive. All the English teachers (Crotty, Britton, etc) really taught us how to write so we didn't flunk out of college freshman English!

Best High School memory:

Just have fond memories of all the extra-curricular activities-we got to try a lot of different things. Really enjoyed the Student Council and Oracle. But by senior year, I was totally burned out.

Where have you traveled outside of US?

Togo and 8 other countries in Africa, Switzerland, Spain, Greece, France, Indonesia, Thailand, Viet Nam, Russia

What did you always want to do but haven't done yet?

Win a tennis tournament. I figured I'd be the last one standing in the Women's 80's, but my joints gave out long ago! Wish we had had girls' sports back then at GBS.

How old do you feel?

Mornings 67. Rest of the day 55.

Hi Kathy, so glad you joined the site. Be sure to get anyone you're in contact with to join as well. I just put a photo on my profile of our summer planning group for Student Council. I had forgotten that we met during the summer to plan elections, etc. Wow, what a long time ago. And how cute we all looked! Hope to see you in September. Barb Sims Avery (one of the many Barbs)
